Hello Parents and Students,
My name is Nathan Mercer and I am thrilled to be a part of the Rod Paige staff. I serve as the Band Director and Music teacher for grades 5th through 8th. I grew up in Clinton, MS and was part of the band program from beginner band all the way through high school. As a percussionist, I was a 3 year member of the All-State Band ranking as high as 2nd chair in the state. I attended the University of Southern Mississippi on a band scholarship and was a part of the "Pride of Mississippi" marching band which has a membership of more than 300 students from all over the United States. I was also a member of the Wind Ensemble, Steel Band, and served as section leader for the drumline. Music has allowed me to travel and perform throughout the United States and the world in places like London, Montreal, and Puerto Rico.
It is my joy and privilege to share my love of music with these wonderful students. Music does more than just make sounds, it changes the way we think and act. The skills your child will learn in music will help them be successful on the stage, in the classroom, and for the rest of their lives.
