Mrs. Griffin's 5th Grade Social Studies
Welcome to 5th Grade Social Studies at Rod Paige. My name is Kelly Griffin and I have been teaching at RPMS since 2017. I am a 1999 graduate of Waltham High School in Waltham, Massachusetts. In 2003, I graduated with a B.A. in History from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts where I was fortunate to study under Pulitzer Prize winning author, Professor David Hackett Fisher. Additionally, I lived in Belfast, Northern Ireland and Dublin, Ireland during my junior year to study Peace and Conflict studies in the aftermath of the Good Friday Agreement. While there, I completed an independent study on Irish Involvement in the Spanish Civil War. I obtained my Master's of Arts in Teaching History from Boston's Emmanuel College in 2010.
I began teaching in the Boston Public School System and continued teaching at St. Patrick's School in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood for several years. In 2015, I moved south to Mississippi with my husband Peter who is a Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy and a member of the Mississippi National Guard. We are blessed with a beautiful daughter, Maggie and three giant dogs.
During my first year of teaching at RPMS, I was on Jeopardy! where I won my first game with a question on the 13 Colonies!! I am passionate about Social Studies and American History, having spent my childhood just miles from the Cradle of American Liberty and the "Shot heard 'round the world". In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, reading, and gardening. I hope to bring the same enthusiasm and spirit for history to all of my students
